The Old Fashioned Girdles

THIS CHRISTMAS IN SEARCH OF A METHOD FOR RELIGIOUS EDUCATION

In recent days, tired and harassed to hear so many seminars, workshops on curriculum diversification and read many books on teaching, pedagogy, and other educational technology, I decided to purify my thoughts, returning to the basic reading of all good Christian who is the Holy Scripture, the Catechism and also my passion, philosophy, or something like back to basics .... And in this process of reflection, a question haunted my thoughts What are we doing for religious education? ... And why is this question ... who suddenly can not fully resolve these lines, but of something if I'm sure we're getting away from authentic Christian Method "The Event" ...

And it always spoken Religious Education Course usually aim to reduce the transmission of values and turned our classes in a moralistic sermonizing charged, sometimes its aim to reduce the transmission of pure fantasy stories becoming the best biblical storytelling, or when we qualify supervise our classes are good only if they have met the millimeter with the proposed times for each scheduled activity or if it has complied with all stages of the method used for our training session, that is, you're a good teacher if you have written good phone skills , skills and assessment indicators or whether chosen strategies to respond to a topic socio cognitive behavioral in other words ... "You're a good teacher if you apply correctly the pedagogical theories" or as others say, if you meet at the foot of the letter with the manual ...

And my view is that the Religious Education course can not be reduced to the application from pure educational theory and, unless ... it can be evaluated with methods, techniques, indicators and instruments to respond to a rationalist, skeptic and relativist (as that is, the philosophical conception which supports our current educational system) that has based on the Denial of the Truth and even worse Denial of God ... So I say, we are Method for allegedly wrong in my opinion, the purpose of religious education is to ensure that young people will have an encounter with Jesus (and thanks to this event managed to understand what is the meaning of life and through this commitment by meeting with Jesus Christ true God and true man will take commitment to defend their faith and especially manifest in your life in a practice of virtues that are welcomed) and ... that encounter with Jesus can be achieved with a methodology philosophical view that contrasts completely to the faith of the church? ... Thus, for example we can see that one of the principles of constructivism is that each youth must construct their own knowledge from experience, to see ... then let the young build the concept of the dogma of the Immaculate Conception, the dogma of the perpetual virginity, the dogma of the trinity, etc. (Note I am saying to build the concept, not for this) we see that the construction of this knowledge is impossible on the part of young people and that can only be acquired by transmission from the Magisterium and the Tradition of the Church ... So

I am also concerned that train specialists in this conception of education, want to limit the depth of the course content of Religious Education, guiding teachers to give greater priority (in the development of themes) use of strategies, techniques and evaluation tools (measurable and quantifiable) and reducing the content (Christian doctrine) of the themes to a minimum, in other words the most important for specialists is the way in which there is a theme and the background (or doctrine) does not matter ... Looking at this thought I could translate it with the phrase "no matter what you say in your subject heresy, what matters is how you present or as make-up "... so, that I still remember that training in a specialist area of religion, literally said ..." that serves to teach you both content (doctrine) to their students, what you have to prepare are activities (strategies) fun and motivating for their students "... I wonder ... what do you think the theological faculty on this? ... and I think the content (doctrinal ) deep well prepared and need not be opposed to the use of strategies or, if so would go against the teaching methods of Jesus, who also used strategies to make known the mystery of the Kingdom of God through parables, but by using this strategy so novel for its time was not forced to reduce the content of his teaching ...

Now another risk that we may take this pedagogical approach is that by forcing us to evaluate students squared by indicators and tools make us forget that we are evaluating individuals and only regard them as good Christians to those who meet all the tasks and products identified in the evaluation indicators ... do this ... we would become modern Pharisees (people who know the law in theory, behave saintly compared to teachers outside the classroom but the school and live as if God did not exist) for that, our biggest criteria assessment should be out as will the Life of Faith every young and this is not something we get to know in a class session (for more well done this in the paper alleged to be available to the students responded to the evaluation indicators and proposed capacity reached concerning the capacity of discernment of faith) that knowledge of the life of faith I believe students can achieve in only the coexistence, in the dialogue, sharing in the encounter, in other words in the "Event" ... and What is an event? ... simply because it is an encounter with a person or a community (that gives meaning to my life), an event is an occurrence that may change my life ... That is why in my opinion, but must spend hours thinking about how to write a verb capacity and choice, among others ... should create Christian communities within our educational institutions that provide the opportunity for young people to live this "event" which is nothing more than an encounter with Jesus, and this "Event "does not exist in fantasy and less in solitude, on the contrary is given in the Living with people who bring Christ into their lives as in the early Christian communities ... And what I say about the creation of Christian community in schools is not a utopia or an unattainable ideal of this sophist ... is a reality I have witnessed and sharing ... and thank God some parishes in the Diocese of Carabayllo already are assuming

... I think ... this could be a more honest and more respectful of Christian tradition and could be applicable for Religious Education in the country ...

then I invite you to see a video ....

this humble thought ... I hope your comments as always without mincing words ...
